The patient’s plasma is then added to these cells to convert prothrombin to thrombin through tissue factors (V, VII and X) present in the plasma. This helps in detection of factors V, VII and X, Fibrinogen and Prothrombin in the blood sample. This test thus assists in the detection of hemostasis disorders. However in APPT, kininogen, prekallikrein are added to the blood cells which converts factor XI to XIa and helps in detection of any the abnormality related to the absence of XIa. In fibrinogen assay, plasma, bovine and imidazole buffered saline solutions are used to quantify fibrinogen content in blood sample.
